Onazi Apologizes Over Poor Performance

Ogenyi Onazi Calls for Prayer Ahead of Afcon Qualifiers.
Super Eagles midfielder Ogenyi Onazi has apologised for his performance against England in a 2018 World Cup friendly match at the Wembley Stadium on Saturday.

The Turkey-based defensive midfielder was a shadow of himself in the match, which the Eagles lost 2-1.

His performance drew negative criticisms and reactions from fans on social media, with many calling for his exclusion from the final 23-man squad for the World Cup.

The 25-year-old posted his apology on Instagram on Monday, saying he would work harder on himself to improve his form before the World Cup.

“Saturday’s outing was disappointing from me and I know it was not the best from me due to reasons I could not lay my hands on but it is a process one has to pass through to get better,” he wrote.

“A lot of criticisms and a lot of blames have followed since Saturday. I know but such incidences only come once in a while. Critics can only make me better because I can’t run away from them. I will learn from the criticisms and get better. Thanks to everyone who came out to support the Super Eagles on Saturday. Preparations for the World Cup are still on to get us in shape.”
