Chelsea midfielder, Ngolo Kante, is known for his high pressing off the ball. He is a very defensive minded midfielder who has a knack for harrying oppositions when they(Chelsea) do not have the ball. Exactly why he was at one point compared to Makele.
But it seems we would not see all of this again under Sarri. In their opening match of the season against Huddersfield, he was more prevalent in the opposition’s half.
Also against Arsenal, he was also prevalent in the final third and almost set up a goal scoring chance for Morata.
See below the three other reasons that confirmed that his role has changed under Sarri:
- In the match against Arsenal, just after the interval, he had a goal bound effort blocked and later headed the ball over from a Pedro’s cross. Something we hardly see from Kante.
- His three shots against Arsenal were four times his average per 90 minutes last season and he created four chances for others too – more than any other Chelsea player.
- Even more unusually, he had five touches in the opposition box. That is almost 10 times his average from last season. The most he managed in any of those games was just two.
