All eyes were on Atlectico Madrid after they defeated city rival, RealMadrid, in the UEFA super cup by four goals to two on wednesday. But they could not replicate the same feat as they threw a goal lead to draw with Valencia in their first LaLiga match of the season.
The encounter looked to be swinging in Atlectico’s favour when they got the opener midway into the first half. But Valencia who have not scored against Atlectico in five consecutive LaLiga matches drew level in the 57th minutes through Rodrigo.
With Barcelona and Real Madrid both winning their opening matches, Atlectico have now lost early ground to their two main contenders for the league title. Although there is still a long way to go and they would be looking to bounce back in their next match against Rayo Vallecano next weekend.
