The pass master. Jorginho, as he is often called by the Standford bridge faithfuls has only played three competitive matches for Chelsea but he has already warmed his way into their heart with his scintillating display.
The 26 years old who followed new coach, Maurizio Sarri, from Napoli to Chelsea was at the heart of things as Chelsea beat Newcastle for the first time at ST.James Park in six attempts.
He and his team mates not only beat Newcastle, but they did so in style by also setting some amazing records which are highlighted below.
- Jorginho’s 173 attempted passes was the second-highest figure in Premier League history since records began in 2003/04. Only Mancity’s player, Ilkay Gundogan, bettered him with 174
- In terms of passes completed, the 158 Jorginho managed is the third-highest number ever, behind Mancity duo of Gundogan (167) and Fernandinho .
- Chelsea completed 838 out of 913 passes, which amounts to a 92 per cent pass completion rate. That is the most passes Chelsea have ever made in a Premier League game.
- The 81.1 per cent share of possession enjoyed by Chelsea was also the highest figure they have recorded since records began.
