Buhari departs to Chad, to chair summit aimed at proffering lasting solutions to insurgency

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday declared open the 2018 chief of army staffs (COAS) conference in Maiduguri. The president in his address assured the military and Nigerians that every thing possible will be done to see that the fight against Boko Haram terrorism is won – provide whatever is necessary to the soldiers to aid their fight against those insurgents.

“I would like to reassure our Military that as their Commander-In-Chief, I will do everything within my power to continue empowering them by providing all the necessary equipment and force multipliers required for them to prevail on the field.”

As part of the plans to bring an end to insurgency in the region, President Buhari convened a Meeting in ‘his capacity as Chairman of the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC).’

I have invited the presidents of the LCBC member countries: Chad, Cameroon, Niger, and the Central African Republic, to attend the meeting. Also invited is the President of the Republic of Benin, which also contributes troops to the MNJTF.

Therefore President Buhari on Thursday morning for departed from Abuja to N’Djamena, Chad, to chair a consultation of Heads of State and Government of the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC).

This meeting g as stated earlier, is to review the security situation in the region, and intensify the efforts to end the insurgency.
