A night-guard and father of five, Abolarinwa Olaoye, allegedly hanged himself due to depression emanating from indebtedness. He was found hanging behind a staircase at the State Secretariat. Mrs Elizabeth Babalola, a confidant of the deceased, revealed that he complained vehemently about financial problems and inability to meet up with the demands of his wife’s family.
In her words:
“He said he was indebted to the government through housing and car loans he obtained. He also complained about inability meet other financial commitments to his wife’s family. He told me he could go ahead and do something nasty. He told me clearly he was tired of life”
Mr Ayo Ajimati, the Executive Secretary of the Ekiti State Scholarship Board, affirmed that the deceased was a staff of the board before his death. She added that Abolarinwa was a very prayerful, jovial and amiable person. “I didn’t know the kind of problem he had that could lead to this”. Meanwhile, the police and officials of the Department of State Services (DSS) arrived the scene on time but couldn’t take away the corpse without orders from the family of the deceased.
