President Muhammadu Buhari has signed the peace accord ahead of next year’s elections. The peace accord is an undertaking by all the presidential candidates to ensure peaceful and fair free campaigns before, during and after the 2019 general elections.
The president, while at the peace accord event on Tuesday, December 11, urged all stakeholders to work towards a peaceful and successful conduct of the elections in 2019.
In his words:
“Today, we witness the formal and official signing of the peace accord by the presidential candidates of the parties contesting the next elections. We the candidates pledged to accord the highest tenets of conduct and encourage our teeming supporters to do the same”
PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and ACPN’s Oby Ezekwesili were among the notable absentees at the peace accord signing while the presidential candidates of 73 other political parties signed the accord.
