Egyptian Actress, Rania Youseff is facing charges for wearing a revealing dress to the Cairo Film festival. A court in Cairo has fixed Jan 12 as the date for the first hearing of the trial. Rania faces a charge of ‘public obscenity’ and could be jailed for up to five years if found guilty.
The complaint was lodged by two lawyers, Amro Abdelsalam and Samir Sabri, who claimed that the actress failed to meet societal values and therefore undermined the reputation of the festival. Meanwhile, the 45-year-old actress tendered an apology via social media, stating that she “probably miscalculated” in choosing a dress to wear. “I reaffirm my commitment to the values upon which we were raised in Egyptian society” Rania said
