Zamfara & Birnin Gwari killlings: why Northern elders are quiet – Shehu Sani

Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has said that mournings and funerals have become part of the lives of people in Zamfara and Birnin Gwari, following the recent spate of killings.

According to the senator, the Northern elders are silent about the menace, which are taking place daily in the region. Sani speaking via Twitter on Monday said the federal government and states, whose only reaction to these killings have always been condemnations and condolences, have run out of those.

Shehu Sani also berated the elders for being quiet instead of speaking up against this evil. He explained that the elders are afraid to speak because they do want to be seen as being against the government, or giving the President the impression that he hasn’t done well.

He wrote:

Mourning & funerals has become part of the daily lives of the people of Zamfara & Birnin Gwari because of the frequency of killings, the FG and states have ran out of condemnations and sending condolences to the families of the victims, the Press too no more treat it as a cover story.

Northern political elites are silent on the frequent killings and kidnappings in the north out of any of these three reasons;FEAR not to be seen opposing the Government;BELIEF that the President is doing his best;INDIFFERENCE because it’s the poor that are dying.
