Buhari already ordered AGF to ensure justice for girl wrongly arrested for drugs in Saudi Arabia - Presidency

Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Foreign Relations and Diaspora Abike Dabiri has informed Nigerians of steps already taken to free Zainab Aliyu.

Aliyu was wrongfully arrested in Saudi Arabia for drug trafficking — However, investigations in Nigeria revealed that she was innocent as a drug cartel at the airport had planted drug in a bag and tagged her name and particulars to it.

The culprits were given away by their WhatsApp messages and have since been arrested.

Senator Shehu Sani earlier in a tweet had advised Zainab’s parents to send a petition to the National Assembly, which will, in turn, make Senate move urgently for her freedom.

Sani had tweeted: If the Parents of Zainab Habibu Aliyu, the Nigerian girl in detention in Saudi Arabia can immediately send a petition to NASS stating her case and innocence, we can move action to highlight her case and demand for urgent action to secure her freedom.

The presidential aide in response to the lawmaker’s tweet said the President has directed the Attorney General of the Federation, AGF to take necessary action and that good progress has been made so far.

She notes also that Zainab and two others in the same situation will be brought back home soon.

@MBuhari has directed the AGF to ensure justice for Zainub. We intervened immediately Zainub’s Dad brought this to our attention. We have made good progress on Zainub and 2 others in the same situation But Senate intervention welcome, she replied.
