Many including children feared dead, as armed bandits attack wedding guests

 

 

Many wedding goers including children are feared dead and injured after armed bandits attacked wedding guests in Birni Gwari.

According to several reports, armed bandits attacked Kakangi village, south-west of Birnin-Gwari of Kaduna state on Saturday evening, shooting sporadically at guests, who were attending a mass wedding in the area.

A police station was said to have been attacked during the raid which started at about 5pm, before the bandits proceeded to attacking and burning houses.

The number of casualties couldn’t be ascertained as at the time of filing this report, but there are six critically injured victims, including children — receiving treatment at the general hospital.

“We were sitting in front of the police station and suddenly heavily armed bandits started shooting.‎ I jumped the fence to escape. As I was escaping, thick smoke from several location overshadowed the sky,” an eyewitness said.

Abubakar Nagwari chairman Birnin Gwari Vanguard for Security and Good governance had this to say:

‎”Several sources said many people feared dead including high profile indigenes of Kakangi, that were attending a mass wedding,” he said.
