Nigeria’s head coach Gernot Rohr named a 25-man provisional list today, wherein he recalled Mikel Obi to lead the team in the 2019 African Cup of Nations.

Mikel, Samuel Chukweze, Leicester striker Kelechi Iheanacho, John Ighalo, Ahmed Musa among others made the Super Eagles’ list for Rohr’s 25-man provisional list.

This has stirred reactions among Nigerian football lovers across the country. Taking to social media soon after the announcement was, they expressed mixed feelings at Mikel’s invitation.

Some reactions below

@iSlimfit wrote: He might not be able to bring much to the table, but we still need that experience in the team, and Mikel is like the only player that can offer that right now. However, I don’t know what Kelechi Iheanacho’s business is on that list though.

What if we didn’t qualify? But he is a great influence on the boys & they regard him highly. Hopefully, it is the right decision

What is Mikel doing in this team again?
The same way we wasted Joseph Yobo’s slot back then.

We haven’t learned one or two things.

@iDebris wrote: Apart from the fact that Mikel Obi & Iheanacho does not have any business being in this squad one other significant issue I have with it is how overloaded the forward is compared to the midfield in the squad #SuperEagles #TotalAFCON2019
