A 4-year-old girl identified as Aisha Taiwo has been declared missing.
According to reports, the child, alongside her 9-year-old brother, Malik, attended the RCCG thanksgiving service with their 60-year-old blind grandma at the national headquarters of the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Ebute Meta, Lagos.
The child reportedly went missing, after children were called out for special prayers at the church. The missing girl’s uncle, Abdulwasiu Esuola who spoke with PUNCH, said the kid’s mother is his sister and she comes to visit her grandma every other weekend. It was during one of such visits she went missing.
He went on to say after the prayer as the children were returning to their seats, the siblings got separated. The uncle added that he was told about the child’s disappearance 40 minutes later.
He said he immediately went to the church to request the CCTV footage of the premises but was told there is no CCTV camera was installed on the premises. All the Church had was the media coverage which focused only on the altar.
He further stated that he reported at the police station, then went back to the church on Tuesday, and there was a service going on. He said he spoke to a pastor, telling him his grievances, but while talking, the said pastor asked that he be excused as he wanted to mount the pulpit and suggested the uncle comes back.
Esuola continued, saying the pastor did not show any empathy and instead replied angrily on why he would suggest seeing him.
“Rather than tell me the time that would be convenient for him to see me, he said angrily that how could I just assume that he would be free anytime I chose to see him. The least he could do was to show some level of empathy.”
Pastor Olaitan Olubiyi, Head of Media and Public Relations, said the church is doing everything in its power to find the girl. When contacted.
