Nigeria’s former First Lady, Patience Jonathan has appealed the forfeiture of her N12.2billion to the Federal Government.
Mrs. Jonathan through her counsel Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), on Tuesday, took to the Court of Appeal in Lagos, praying it to upturn the decision of Justice Mojisola Olatoregun of the Federal High Court in Lagos.
According to the former, First Lady said the judge lacked the jurisdiction to order the final forfeiture.
Justice Olatoregun had ruled yesterday on an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) praying her to order the forfeiture of $8.4million (about N3.030billion) and N9.2billion found in her companies’ accounts.
The judge subsequently offered the final forfeiture because the funds were proceeds of unlawful activities.
