Dozen of people are feared dead after a petrol tanker passing Ahumbe village on the Alliade/ Makurdi Federal Highway on Monday 1st of June lost control and flipped.
According to our source, The Fuel Tanker was trying to dodge a pothole when it tumbled causing the outpour of the fuel.
The petrol Tanker didn’t explode immediately after it flipped according to witnesse in the same vein residents in the area rushed to scoop fuel from the tanker, in the processing of scooping the fuel, the Tanker exploded and burnt scores of people.
A commercial bus passing also got engulfed by the fire killing all the passengers.
Unconfirmed reports said at least 50 people were burnt in the process and over 70 people have been rushed to the hospital.

According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Catherine Anene
“The DPO in Aliade confirmed that a fuel tanker fell on the road and that the villagers ignored the warnings of the security men and in the process, there was an explosion; many people were injured and rushed to hospital in Aliade.”
