Police Arrest Eight Over Illicit Sale Of Naira Notes In Lagos

Bala Elkana, the spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, has announced that men of the different security operatives in collaboration with the Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN) have raided a Naira market in Ikeja area of Lagos state, and arrested no fewer than 8 persons involved in the illegal trade of the Nigerian currency.

According to Elkana who made this known while fielding questions from journalists shortly after the raid, he gave the names of the arrested suspects as Adetoro Adijat ‘f’ 37years old, Mahmoud Ayoola ‘f’ 42years old, Eze Madu ‘m’ 27years old, Olorunfunmi Shakirat ‘f’ 38years old, Akonji Julius ‘m’ 40years Olson, Olalekan Kadri ‘m’ 23years old, Akinsonya Abiodun ‘m’ 34years old and Adeniyi Yetunde ‘f’ 30years old.

His words:

”It is important for members of the Public to note that, acts of spraying the Naira notes at occasions, soiling and writing on the Naira, squeezing the Naira, as well as hawking and selling of the country’s currency notes, are abuses of the naira and are punishable by law.

“We all have a duty to protect the  Naira as our currency forms part of the symbols of our national identity. The Command thereby appeal to the General Public to report any person or group of persons seen abusing the Naira to the Police or any law enforcement agency”
