Governor Dickson Seriake of Bayelsa state has advised those interested in going into cattle business to consider ranching and not Ruga settlement arrangement.
The governor said this while reacting to reports that the federal government has suspended the programme following public outcry against it.
Dickson commented the federal government for heeding to the cry of the people but advised that the programme be outrightly cancelled and not suspended.
His words: “Those involved in cattle business should be encouraged to go into ranching rather than RUGA settlement arrangement.
“It is heartening to note that the Federal Government has decided to heed the voice of the Nigerian people by suspending the controversial RUGA Project.
“However, my position is that the project should be outrightly cancelled and not suspended.”
Information Nigeria recalls that the federal government had proposed the RUGA idea as a means of addressing the incessant clashes between cattle rearers and farmers.
Before its suspension, many Nigerians, stakeholders and governors kicked against its establishment.
