Few minutes after a Catholic Priest, Rev Fr. Paul Offu was shot dead by unknown gunmen, his bank account was reportedly emptied by an unknown person.
According to the report, the yet to be identified person made hasty and frequent withdrawals, 25 minutes after he was murdered.
All the money in the late cleric’s account with an unidentified old generation bank were completely emptied by the person.
According to an inside source who spoke with Daily Trust, considering the time of Offu’s murder and when the withdrawal was made, “it makes one to wonder how fast the killers (assuming they actually made the withdrawal) were able to rush to the bank and withdrew all the cash,” asking rather angrily: “Who was, indeed, responsible for disclosing the pin number of the priest ATM?”
The source added that, “there was need for the security operatives to look inward and ascertain who actually did the withdrawals from the murdered priest bank account shortly after he was killed.
“It is not certain that the person or persons who made the quick withdrawal from Fr Offu’s bank account destroyed the camera before operating the ATM. So the police could exploit this angle and make sure they leave no stone unturned in their investigation,” she said.
Fr Offu was shot dead, the Parish priest of St James the Greater Parish, Ugbowka in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State was shot dead by gunmen on last Thursday on Ihe-Agbudu Road in Awgu Local Government Area of the state.
Meanwhile, the police spokesman of the command, SP Ebere Amaraizu had launched into investigation and culprits will soon be brought to book.
