A former senator, Shehu Sani has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to resist the urge to leave behind a “poisonous legacy of rights violations. ”

Sani’s reaction is coming days after renowned human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN) revealed that the leader of Islamic Movement of Nigeria(IMN), Ibraheem El Zakzaky has still not released by the Department of State Services(DSS).

El Zakzaky and his wife had been granted leave to obtain medical treatment abroad by a federal high court sitting in Kaduna.

Sani, who represented Kaduna Central at the Senate during the 8th Assembly, said in a tweet on Wednesday morning that Buhari must avoid leaving behind a poisonous legacy of rights violations, no matter the temptation, provocation or instigation by those encouraging disobeying court orders.

He added that Nigerians lack the court of defending the actions of presidents when they leave office.

He tweeted, “The President must avoid leaving behind a poisonous legacy of rights violations no matter the temptation, provocation & instigation by those encouraging it. Nigerians don’t have the culture & history of defending the actions of their Presidents When they leave office. ”
