The motion to evacuate Nigerians was reportedly raised by the house spokesperson, Hon. Benjamin Okezie.

However, lawmakers voted massively against the motion, maintaining that China has better facilities to handle the situation than Nigeria.

Efforts by Speaker of the House, Rt Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila to calm the lawmaker and allow Mr Okezie to move his motion was unsuccessful.
