Residents Bemoan Rising Commercial Motorcycle Accidents In Osun
Motorcycle (Okada) Accident

The level of recklessness of commercial motorcyclists has become a major concern for the people of Ilesa town of Osun State and its environs.

According to reports from Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital side of Accident and Emergency(A and E) unit in Wesley Guild, the influx of Okada accident victims in the unit is alarming.

It was gathered that about 20 Okada accident victims were taken to the Accident and Emergency Unit within 3 days out of which 7 among them were brought dead or died while  trying to resuscitate them.

Mr. Olusola Akin, a patient’s family member at the hospital blamed the increase in motorcycle accidents on the recklessness and impatience of the motorcycle riders.

Mr. Olusola also condemned commercial transporters most of whom are used to driving while intoxicated.

Mr. Olusola Akin called for the intervention of the FRSC (Federal Road Safety Corps) to ensure laws are followed and anyone found violating should be penalized.

He said, “Some days ago, a staff of the Federal Government School of Science and Technology, Cappa in Ilesa part of Osun State was killed when the Motorcycle she boarded collided with a minibus.

Members of Commercial Motorcycle union distanced themselves from riders who are involved in accident as the union claimed that there is always a sensitization meeting with members on safety and hazard of their work.
