Igbo socio-political organisation in the South-East, Ohaneze Ndigbo, has urged Igbo politicians not to accept to be a running mate to any presidential candidate in the forthcoming 2023 elections.
According to the group, 2023 is the year when an Igbo man should emerge as President of Nigeria.
George Obiozor, president-general of Ohaneze Ndigbo, said this at an emergency meeting organised by the group in Enugu state on Thursday, May 5.
Obiozor said the clamour for Igbo to be elected president of Nigeria is morally and historically justifiable and a project to which every Igbo must commit.
“All the double dealings about zoning and rotation of power are orchestrated conspiracy to deprive the south-east of the right to produce the president. I encourage all the presidential aspirants from the zone to remain focused, tenacious and optimistic.
In fact, we are fully committed to the resolution by the Southern and Middle Belt Leadership Forum (SMBLF) that no southerner, in fact a south Easterner for that matter, should denigrate himself or herself with the position of Vice President”he said.
