Tukur Mamu, the spokesman of hostage negotiator in Nigeria and cleric Ahmed Gumi, has been arrested in Egypt.
Mamu told reporters that he was apprehended on Tuesday and confined by Interpol at the Cairo International Airport while awaiting a connecting flight to Saudi Arabia.
Mamu, the publisher for Desert Herald Newspaper in Kaduna, said he was interrogated before being flown back to Nigeria by Interpol, adding that Interpol discovered nothing incriminating against him. He was accompanied by his two wives and one other person.

Gumi’s spokesman is expected to arrive Aminu Kano International Airport, and might be questioned further later on Wednesday by the Department of State Services (DSS) officials.
Mamu negotiated the release of some of the victims of the March 2022 Kaduna-Abuja train attack. He retreated as lead negotiator following an allegation that the Nigerian government was threatening his life.
