More than a hundred communities in Jigawa State have been cut off due to collapsed bridges and culverts in the State.
Engr. Yusif Abdullahi, the Director of Engineering Services, Jigawa Road Maintenance Agency, JIRMA, made this known while briefing reporters on the State’s emergency response to the affected communities.
Mr Yusif said the agency, through the State Ministry of Works, was working on providing an alternative to the road users in all the affected areas.
“We have been working day and night to reclaim some roads/bridges and reconnect the affected communities.
āSome of the roads damaged included: Dutse-Madobi-Gambarin, Kiyawa-Jahun-Gujungu, Karnaya-Gabarin, Chaichai-Ringim, Guru Kadara, Kiyawa- Birnin Kudu, Gwaram-Basirika and Ringim-Gidan Large, among others,ā he said.
Yusif explained that the agency’s primary challenge was accessing the damaged site and deploying equipment as the flood continued to wreak havoc in the affected areas.

“Some of the roads were already reclaimed through temporary measures, some were renovated, while work is going on in some places to provide alternative or temporary measures before the water subsides for the main work,” he stated.
Yusif hence called on the people of the State to continue cooperating with the State government as the authority was doing its best to minimize the difficulties they were facing due to the flood and road collapse across the State.
