Nigeria’s Under-17 Female team, the Flamingos, have sealed a spot in the quarterfinals of the India 2022 Under-17 Women’s World Cup after they beat Chile in their final group B game today at the Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar.
The Flamingos started on the right path as midfielder Blessing Emmanuel made judicious use of a pass by Opeyemi Ajakaye four minutes after the start of the game.
Chile dominated play, but the Flamingos had better opportunities to score and finished the first half with a slim 1-0 lead.
The Chileans put more players forward in the second half, trying to equalize, but the Flamingos kept their shape.
In the 82nd minute, the Flamingos doubled the lead as Bisola Mosaku converted a through ball to her by Amina Bello.

Chile finally scored through a penalty in additional time to set up a tense ending to the game.
The Nigerian side won the game as winners and finished as runners-up behind Germany.
The Flamingos will now wait to know their opponents after group A games are concluded.
