NIS, IOM Warn Traders, Pupils Against Back-Door Migration

The Nigeria Immigration Services, Ogun State Command, and the International Organisation for Migration have urged pupils and traders against irregular migration.

On Friday, the NIS and IOM embarked on a sensitisation march to some secondary schools, markets, and motor parks in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, admonishing against irregular migration.

The march began at the NIS’s command, Oke-Mosan, and ended at the Itoku market in the Abeokuta South Local Government.

It was led by the Comptroller of Immigration, Ogun State Command, Jibril Yakubu, who was joined by officials of IOM.

The officials of NIS and IOM carried placards with various inscriptions, warning pupils, parents, market men and women against allowing anyone to lure them, their children or wards into fake migration.

Yakubu advised the pupils not to be deceived by some people, who may want to lure them into travelling out of the country through irregular means.

Morire John, a victim of human trafficking, narrated how a woman enticed her into a journey and, while on the way, turned a mere commodity sold to different people.

John advised pupils always to verify any offer to travel out of the country.

She said, “I tell you my story because I was rescued. Others died in the desert. We were reduced to mere slaves and commodities being traded from one master to another. It was a nasty experience. Be careful when anyone approaches you or your parents to take you out of Nigeria.”
