About a year ago, almost to the date, an incident occurred which shook the tech ecosystem in Nigeria to its very roots. Celestine Ezeokoye, award-winning programmer berated the lack of enough investment in the industry as it were. There was, to say the least, an uproar with various technology heads including Jason Njoku (whose offer was refused) and even Tony Elumelu (the subject of the matter) weighing in. This eventually culminated in what is now referred to as ‘The TiketMobile Saga’.

One year down the line, Celestine has worked with the Interswitch Group and has left the company to start something new. After looking at the one of the biggest expenditure-intensive areas in Nigeria, he decided to build a solution for it. Hence the birth of an occasions management app – Ocaman. According to Celestine, “I was actually thinking of a way to rekindle my entrepreneurship flame and the idea for an occasions and RSVP-based app dropped into my head. I have been working on this since then.”

Ocaman is an app that aims to connect you with the service providers when you want to host an occasion, right from your invitation cards to selecting a venue to hiring photographers and even venue decorators. However, Ocaman is launching with a minimum viable product – the ability to design and order for invitation cards. Over the next few months, other features will be added and go live. Eventually, you can plan a whole occasion from the comfort of your couch.

In the spirit of partnerships, Ocaman is also inviting designers to join them and earn money anytime their designs are used as invitation cards. So as a designer, if you are registered on Ocaman, you are paid a certain amount for every copy of that card every time your design is used on an invitation card, directly into your account.
