US Launches two Airstrikes In Libya

The US has launched two air strikes in Libya, White House officials have confirmed. The airstrikes reportedly targeted strongholds of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group.

The airstrikes were in the Libyan city of Sirte and came at the request of the Libyan government which is backed by the United Nations.

A statement from the Pentagon said,”These actions and those we have taken previously will help deny ISIL a safe haven in Libya from which it could attack the United States and our allies”

America’s coordinated response with the Libyan government further emphasises the growing concern of world powers over IS and the increased need to take action against the group. The airstrikes were approved by President Barack Obama and it remains to be seen if there will be further airstrikes in the coming days.
