It’s dark under-eye circles season—allergies are acting up and you haven’t gotten any sun yet, so the shadows around your peepers might be more obvious than usual.
So to help, I pulled together in one handy list some of our best advice for making under eye circles disappear that we’ve featured on the blog.
Here are quick things you can do:
1) Start eating citrus.
In a piece about foods that promote great skin on Self.com, I found this nugget of wisdom for the scourge of undereye bags and dark circles:
“Dark under-eye circles can make you look like the Crypt Keeper—not cute. But the vitamin C in oranges banishes bags. It strengthens collagen, the skin’s supportive structure, to lift sunken areas that create shadows.”
Yes! I’ve been low on citrus lately, so I’m going to boost my intake and see how it helps blast these dark circles (and, um, I’m also going to try to get to bed earlier, too!).
2) Use super-star makeup artist Pat McGrath’s one-two punch of a mask and a concealer packed with anti-aging ingredients.
You’ve heard of Pat McGrath, right? Oh, she’s only the supermodel of makeup artists who’s worked on countless magazine covers and, um, every celebrity ever. Recently, I got to pick her brain a little and find out all her secrets. Aren’t I lucky? Well, I’m going to share. Here’s what the CoverGirl spokesperson had to say about her tricks to hiding undereye circles:
“The trick to preventing dark circles under the eyes is to use a great skincare regimen daily. For a fresh complexion, use SK-II Signs Eye Masks as a mini treatment. So there you have it: A ton of moisture to plump fine lines and concealer that doubles as treatment. All sounds pretty genius to me.

Makeup artist Trish McEvoy spilled her big secret for hiding dark undereye circles, and I think it’s a game-changer. Her tip?
“Apply your under-eye brightener in an inverted triangle under the eye—what I call my signature Triangle of Light—to lift and light up your face.”
A triangle of light! Interesting. Personally, I’ve always just smeared my brightening concealer (I’m obsessed with this one at moment) around haphazardly until the majority of the darkness disappears—I’ve never given any thought to the idea that the way I’m putting it on could make a difference. I haven’t tried it out yet but I will and hope that it’s the answer to all my dark-undereye-circle prayers. Fingers crossed.
4) Get a little help from some shimmer.
Sure, you can use concealer to hide the circles around your eyes. But there’s also another method you can try.
You can use just a bit of shimmer cream–think pearly, not glittery–to catch the light there and brighten things up a bit. You can either wear it alone of over you concealer for a little extra insurance. And then you just do your eye makeup as usual.
5) Look for caffeine to deflate puffiness—it’s what makes this product such a reader favorite!
Oh, lovely, lovely caffeine, the thing that probably helped you get out of bed this morning. Caffeine is a diuretic, so it’s an immediate skin de-puffer that makes the area look firmer and less tired pretty much on contact.
