D’Tigers opened their first victory at the 9th Stankovic Continental Champions Cup in China today (Sunday).

They defeated the hosts 57-60 to snap three-game losing skid. Nkem Ojougboh (206-C-87, agency: David Lee services, college: Northeastern) came up with 12 points and 7 rebounds to lead the winners. KC Anuna (193-PG-89, college: Pfeiffer) had 11 points, while Richard Oruche (193-SG-87, college: Ill.-Springfield) and Olumide Oyedeji (210-C-81) chipped in 10 points each for the African side.

Nigeria grabbed a 15-11 lead ten minutes into the game. China picked up the tempo in the second quarter. The hosts fired 19 points in the period and cut the deficit at 3-point mark at halftime 30-33.

China eventually spurred ahead in the third term. The Asian team grabbed a 51-46 lead into the fourth period. But Nigeria limited the hosts to just 6 points in the final quarter and snatched victory.

The loss was China’s second in the campaign as they’ve also won two of their previous games. Zhao TaiLong (193-G/F-90) responded with 15 points for China. Zhai Xiaochuan (205-F-93) chipped in 14 points in the defeat.
