Aneke, 20, who spent the majority of last season on loan at the club, has rejoined Crewe on a season-long loan.

The starlet’s chances of breaking into Arsene Wenger’s first team for the 2013/14 season remain slim, having spent most of participation in the team in the recent Asia Tour, operating in the unfamiliar position of centre-back.

The midfielder scored on his return, as the Championship side progressed to the second round of the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night.

“He did terrific for us last season. I think initially people didn’t see his quality, but over time he came to fruition and his fitness was much better,” Crewe manager Steve Davis told BBC Radio Stoke.

“The quality and goalscoring ability he’s got was apparent to everybody. He’s the creative player that (former captain, Luke) Murphy was and we could do with that type.”

Aneke, who has played for England at the junior level, is eligible to represent Nigeria at senior international level.
