The 24-year-old Germany midfielder signed a five-year deal with Arsenal that broke the north London club’s transfer record by £27.4m after agreeing a £42.4m deal with the Los Merengues.

The sensational transfer was the highpoint of the deadline day sales and Fabregas who left Arsenal for Barcelona in 2011, said his former club have done well by seeing the deal through.

“I was really surprised by Ozil’s departure,” Fabregas told Spanish radio station Cadena Cope.

“He seemed to me the second-best player at Madrid, after Cristiano (Ronaldo). I could identify with him really well as we have a similar style of play.

“He’s an amazing signing for Arsenal,”

Meanwhile Cristiano Ronaldo has admitted that he is “angry” about the departure of his teammate to Arsenal.

The Portugal international has expressed his outrage at the club’s decision to let the German international leave.

“Ozil’s departure is very bad news for me,” Spanish newspaper AS quotes Ronaldo as saying.

“He was the player who knew my moves in front of goal the best. I’m angry about Ozil leaving.”
