Odemwingie Hits First Target But Too Little to Lift Cardiff Over Hammers.

Nigeria international Osaze Peter Odemwingie opened his goal-scoring account for his new club Cardiff City last (Tuesday) night in a Capital One Cup third round tie against West Ham at Upton Park.

Odemwingie, 32, started for the first time for Malky Mackay’s side, which lost to Tottenham last Sunday in the league, and failed to reach the fourth round of the League Cup following another late Ricardo Vaz Te’s winner.

‘The Bluebirds’ were down by two goals seven minutes into the encounter when Liam Morrison and Matty Jarvis put Sam Allardyce’s men in front.

Craig Noone pulled the visitors back on the stroke of half-time before Odemwingie first goal for his new club leveled scores in the 75th minute.

The winner however eluded Cardiff as Vaz Te headed home from close range to help the ‘Hammers’ scale through their opponent’s stiff challenge.

Malckay praised Odemwingie’s performance after the match, having succeeded in drawing both sides level and almost forced the contest to extra time when his shot floated wide above the bar in the closing stage of the game.

“Big thanks to our supporters for traveling down on a Tuesday night. Bad result but a good lesson for the games to come in the league,” the former West Bromwich Albion striker wrote on his twitter handle @OdemwingieP.
