Ronaldo Fit for Germany

Portugal and Real Madrid winger Cristiano Ronaldo says he is fit and ready to line up against Germany.

The 29-year-old have been troubled with knee and thigh injuries in the build-up to the European nation’s campaign in Brazil, but admits he is “100% fit and wants to have a great World Cup.”

He however dismisses suggestions he has to replicate his fascinating season with La Liga giants and European champions Real Madrid, for whom he has netted 252 times in 246 appearances.

“I don’t think I have to show anyone anything,” he said.

“If we look at my statistics and resume you’ll see that.”

Ronaldo, who is expected to captain coach Paulo Bento’s men against Germany in Monday’s opening Group G match in Salvador, is Portugal’s all-time leading scorer.

He won his second Ballon d’Or honour this year, as well as his second Champions League title, as Real hammered city rivals Atletico Madrid 4-1 in Lisbon in May.

“I don’t have to demonstrate anything,” he stressed. “Not now or before or after. What I have to do is continue my career which has been great so far.”

The ex-Manchester United forward single-handedly clinched a sixth World Cup ticket for the 1966 bronze medalist, by scoring all goals in their two-legged European play-off victory over Sweden in November.

He added: “I believe one player is not a team, I’m here in the national team to help, I’m an additional player, I can make a difference in some of the games, but I can’t carry the whole team on my back.

“I’m just someone who wants to help to become a champion. We’re not the favourite or in the group of favourites, which is something which is good for us.”
