EPL Update: Champions Stunned at Home, Swansea Top Standings

Manchester City lost their first game of the Premier League season at home to Stoke City, as Mame Biram Diouf’s second-half strike proved costly.

The Senegalese international striker silenced the Etihad Stadium in the 58th minute via a solo effort. Diouf collected the ball from a clearance inside his own half, covered about 70 yards, evading Alexander Kolarov and Vincent Kompany to slot it under goalkeeper Joe hart.

Yaya Toure’s late appeal for penalty was turned down by referee Lee Mason, instead the Ivorian was booked for diving.

It is only the second time City have failed to score at home in their last 71 league games.

Stoke had lost all 12 previous visit to both Manchester teams, and will be delighted to have ran away with all three points against the reigning champions.

Swansea 3-0 West Brom

A Nathan Dyer brace was complemented by Wayne Routledge’s volley, as Swansea continued their unbeaten start to the Premier League season.

Dyer finished off a slick move by running onto Gylfi Sigurdsson’s flick to fire home within two minutes of kick-off.

Routledge then met Craig Dawson’s headed clearance to double the hosts lead before Dyer stroked home his second from another Sigurdsson pass.

Three wins from three had the Swans climb to the summit of the standings.
