Super 4: Wolves Claim 1st Pre-Season Win Over Pillars

Warri Wolves cruised to a 3-1 win over Glo Premier League champions Kano Pillars in their fourth game of the ongoing Super 4 in Abuja on Friday.

Confederation Cup-bound Wolves were 2-1 up at the interval courtesy of Sikiru Adewale’s brace and Christian Obiozor’s strike four minutes to the break.

Ikechukwu Igbenegbu restored the seasiders’ two-goal cushion 8 minutes after the restart to seal a first pre-season win for coach Paul Aigbogun’s side.

Kano Pillars remain on four points, a point ahead of Wolves.

Adewale was on the end of Omodiagbe’s cut back to slot in from close range and place Wolves in the ascendancy after just 3 minutes of play.

Adamu Hassan’s one-time shot skidded off target in the 31st minute as Pillars struggled to get into the game.

Adewale doubled Wolves’ lead 3 minutes later from forward Stanley Dimgba’s assists before Obiozor pulled one back for the Pyramid city side following some sloppy defending by Joseph Osadiaye.

It was the Delta State team’s turn celebrate, moments after Akpeyi collected Hassan’s volley as Ibenegbu volleyed in from Dimgba’s cross to seal three points.

The skinny midfielder nicknamed Mosquitoe had only Theophilus Afelokhai to beat in the 62nd minute, but sent his shot straight at the goalkeeper.

Adewale was set free one-on-one with Pillars defender Ogbonnaya but, instead went for a chip which Afelokhai saved.

Substitute Rabiu Ali’s speculative strike from 35 metres out failed to trouble Akpeyi as Wolves held on to their first point.
