Sunshine Stars came back from one-goal down to claim a 2-1 home win over resilient FC Taraba on Sunday.
The Akure Gunners are mid-season champions in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) with 36 points from 19 matches.
Tunde Adeniji, who would later go on to score a brace, and Dele Olorundare missed early chances.
Taraba claimed a surprise lead on the road, courtesy of Stephen Adah’s fine header.
But hitman Adeniji restored parity for the hosts a minute to the interval in front of 7,126 delighted crowd at the Akure Township stadium.
Adeniji pulled Sunshine ahead on 50 minutes, taking his goal tally for the season to 11.
