Swansea City have signed goalkeeper Josh Vickers on a two-year deal.
The 19-year-old has been on trial at the Liberty Stadium since the start of July and made case for his stake to a permanent deal with an impressive second-half performance in a pre-season win against 1860 Munich in Germany.
Vickers was released by Arsenal in June and joins the Swans on a free transfer- subject to international clearance.
He reunites with former Gunners team-mate Lukasz Fabianski and will alongside Kristoffer Nordfeldt become understudies to the Pole at the Welsh club.
“I have been here five or six weeks now, taking part in some great matches and feel I have settled in well,” Vickers told the club’s official website.
“This club is going in the right direction. How the first team performed last year is breathing confidence though the whole team, it is a club on the up and its great to be a part of.
“My aim here is to push on. I hope to be training with the first team most days and to feature for the Under-21s doing the best I can, and I think there is a chance for me to grow and develop here.”
Vickers spent two seasons in Arsenal’s youth team and has had loan spells at non league sides Canvey Island and Concord Rangers.
“It’s going to be great to work with Tony (Roberts),” the English goalkeeper said about his relationship with Swansea goalkeeping coach, whom he worked with at Arsenal.
““Tony called and asked if I would come in on trial. I know how much knowledge he has of the game, I have worked with him the last four years and I couldn’t turn down the opportunity.”
