West Brom Dismiss Berahino Transfer Request

West Bromwich Albion have rejected a written transfer request from Saido Berahino.

The striker has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur, with the north London outfit reported to have tabled a £15m bid.

The Midlands club said in a statement: “The request has been rejected and the club’s position remains unchanged from that outlined in the statement from Chairman Jeremy Peace of August 18.

“There will be no further comment.”

Berahino, 22, who scored 14 goals in 38 appearances for West Brom last season, is under contract at the Hawthorns until June 2017.

Spurs have managed just two points from their opening three Premier League fixtures, with striker Harry Kane drawing blank in those fixtures.

Coach Mauricio Pochettino’s options on the front line have been further dampened by the sale of Roberto Soldado to Villarreal this summer, with Emmanuel Adebayor clearly not a Plan B for the Argentine.

Burundi-born Berahino has accrued 168 minutes of Premier League action so far this season but has yet to register a goal. He was an unused substitute in Sunday’s 2-3 home defeat by Chelsea.
