Controversial Filipino president, Rodrigo Duerte has reacted aggressively to America’s concern over human rights abuses in the country.
Duerte was elected on the back of promises to rid the country of notorious drug cartels which sponsored a booming illicit drug trade. His decision to introduce a ‘shoot to kill’ mandate to policemen to suspected drug dealers has led to a death toll of almost 2,500 people in just a matter of months.
He has been nicknamed ‘The Punisher’, for his brutal methods and ahead of a meeting at the Asean conference, Duerte said, referring to President Obama; “You must be respectful. Do not just throw away questions and statements. Son of a whore, I will curse you in that forum,”
“We will be wallowing in the mud like pigs if you do that to me,”
