Runoff Election, Victory For Atiku, Tinubu, Obi, Could Trigger Unrest – Baba-Ahmed

Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the National Director of Publicity and Advocacy of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), has expressed fear that victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or the Labour Party (LP), in the upcoming elections, may put Nigeria in jeopardy.

Baba-Ahmed disclosed this on Wednesday in his weekly column, adding that the elections in February represent a defining moment for Nigeria.

Aside his fear that crisis may erupt and lead to instability in the country’s political sphere if the candidates of the major political parties, Bola Tinubu of APC, Atiku Abubakar of PDP and Peter Obi of LP wins the election, he also expressed worry that a runoff election may land the country in jeopardy.

He said, “The nation is beginning to hear worrying murmurs about the consequences of certain candidates losing the elections.

“An Atiku or Tinubu victory could trigger some unrest in parts of the country. An Obi (Peter) victory is likely to create massive post-election political instability.

“A runoff would put the country’s already precarious peace and security in jeopardy,” he wrote.

Come February 25, voters in Nigeria will pick a new president to succeed Muhammadu Buhari, who cannot run after serving the two terms allowed by law.
