Shiite Leader, El-Zakzaky Awarded Honorary Doctorate (Photos)

The controversial leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, popularly known as Shiites, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Peace and Conflict Resolution from an Iranian University.

Zakzaky, who carries the title of Ayatollah, is an outspoken leading Shi’ite leader and Islamic cleric in Nigeria.

The Shiite leader was spotted in a ceremonial robe, receiving the honorary doctorate as his family witnessed the occasion.

INFORMATION NIGERIA learnt that Zakzaky launched the Islamic movement in the 1980s to copy Iran’s Islamic revolution that led to the downfall of the pro-West monarch, Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, in 1979.

Recall that El-zakzaky and his wife, Zeenat, were recently issued new International Passports.

The Islamic leader confirmed the development in a video clip released on Monday, 3rd October, which captured moments some people visited him during the Eid-ul-Maulud celebration in Abuja.

This means that the Shiite leader and his wife can now travel out of the country for medical treatments as they so wish.
