Police Arrest Youth Leader, 122 Others Over Attack On Rivers Assembly Speaker’s Residence

The Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Rivers State Chapter, Chijioke Ihunwo, and 122 young people have been arrested.

INFORMATION NIGERIA reports that the development is coming, following the allegedly attacking the home of the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Martins Amaewhule.

In a statement made available on Wednesday, by Police spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko said that the youths, led by Ihunwo, stormed the Speaker’s residence on Tuesday with intent to commit a felony.
Iringe-Koko stated that the youths attacked the speaker’s house, “located at Forces Avenue, Old GRA, Port Harcourt, where they forcefully gained entrance into Martins’s home and damaged the gate of the house”.

She noted that the suspects were arrested following a distress call received by the command’s control room, noting that they have been taken to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Port Harcourt for further investigation.

Iringe-Koko said: “While they were carrying out their nefarious activities at the scene, a distress call was received by the control room of the command, and tactical teams were immediately deployed to the scene, where one hundred and twenty-two (122) suspects, including the said Amb. Chijioke Ihunwo were arrested and taken to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Port Harcourt, for a discrete investigation.”

She added that the command has also placed adequate security at the State House of Assembly Complex, including the Speaker’s House and other strategic locations to resist any ugly incident.
