How the Alakijas shook UK with N2b wedding

It was a breathtaking wedding party, as Folarin, son of Chief Folorunso Alakija, got married to his Iranian beauty, Nazanin Jafarian Ghaissarifar, in a lavish ceremony estimated to have cost around five million pounds; about N2billion.

The wedding held at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire over the weekend in the UK.

The groom, a father-of-one, who is in his late 30s is one of the 66-year-old oil tycoon’s four sons.

Known to have lost his first wife to cancer, Folarin tied the knot to his new woman in front of friends, family and celebrities, including Victoria’s Secret Angel, Shanina Shaik.

It was a lavish, no-expense spared, fairy tale affair.

NAN reports that while Folarin makes his money as an entrepreneur, investor and cinematographer, it is his mother who has an estimated fortune of $2.1 billion.

Forbes ranks her as the 14th richest person in Africa but the richest woman in the country. She is number 80 on its global Power Women list and overtook Oprah Winfrey as the richest woman of African descent in the world in 2014.

It is thought the family flew hundreds of close friends and family members over from Nigeria, who were no doubt put up in an expensive hotel for the weekend.

The Woodstock venue, which is the ancestral home of Sir Winston Churchill, was kitted out with one million white roses, a lavish cake decorated with hundreds of ornate white roses and even hosted pop star Robin Thicke at an estimated cost of £150,000.

Wedding planners believe the venue was exclusively hired at a cost of £150,000 with the bespoke marquee and bespoke marble floor with their initials etched in gold costing around £200,000 on top.

According to the venue’s website, the cost of hiring the whole venue is on application but hiring just the palace and state rooms costs £33,000.

The beautiful flowers were the work of Jeff Leatham, who is known for his elaborate decorating of the Kardashian’s homes.

Bringing over 30 staff members to the UK for the ceremony, Jeff adorned every inch of the venue with copious amounts of roses and white orchids.

Jeff, who can command up to £250,000 for flowers, has worked for Madonna, Oprah and Tina Turner. He was also the man behind the flowers at Eva Longoria and Tony Parker’s wedding.

Guests were also treated to a surprise performance from Blurred Lines singer, Robin Thicke, who reportedly costs around £150,000 to hire and would have been flown over from the US, as well as a magnificent firework display in the hotel grounds later in the evening.

Folarin’s new wife, who is said to have once dated Rob Kardashian, studied Bio-engineering and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Manchester, has a graduate Diploma in Law and has also worked as a model and marketing consultant

Reps urge FG to set up a Military force to deal with herdsmen excesses

The recent attack by the Fulani Herdsmen has been a concern to residents of states in the country, and that has made the House of Representatives to ask the Federal Government to set up a joint military-police task force to confront “rampaging” herdsmen, who are killing and maiming victims in various parts of the country.

In Etsako Federal Constituency of Edo State and particularly in Auchi-Warake; Fugar-Ekperi and Okpella-Uluoke committees, the House said the herdsmen terrorising inhabitants were “suspected Boko Haram” insurgents, who must be tamed urgently.

The House specifically named Benue State, among other states in the federation it said needed government intervention to rehabilitate destroyed villages and prevent more people from being massacred by the herdsmen.

The House passed two separate resolutions on the menace of herdsmen on Wednesday alone, to underscore the seriousness of the threats their activities posed to national security.

The resolutions came just 24 hours after the Speaker, Mr. Yakubu Dogara, chaired a four-hour closed-door meeting of members with service chiefs on rising cases of kidnapping in the country.

On Wednesday, a member of the All Progressives Congress from Benue State, Mr. Teseer Mark-Gbillah, moved a motion on the “Need for Intervention in the Incessant Killing, Destruction of Property and Displacement of Communities by Rampaging Herdsmen.”

The motion, which highlighted the plight of victims in “Benue and other states,” called for support for affected communities.

Mark-Gbillah recalled that herdsmen had killed at least 5,000 Nigerians between 2015 and 2017, making them the fourth most dangerous killer group after “Boko Haram, ISIS and Al-Qaeda.”

In passing the resolution, the lawmakers appealed for urgent support for victims of herdsmen from the government and international donor agencies.

The resolution was passed in a unanimous voice vote.

The second motion on “Need to Arrest and Prosecute Suspected Boko Haram Members Parading as Herdsmen in Etsako Federal Constituency,” was moved by Mr. Johnson Egwakhide-Oghuma.

He lamented that many communities in the constituency were under siege by the herdsmen, who killed villagers and invaded farms and homes at will.

In passing a resolution on the motion, the House directed the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, and the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, to set up a joint task force to combat the herdsmen.

It also asked the Department of State Services to step up intelligence operations in a bid to “prevent the scoundrels from further inflicting harm on the people.”

Ex-BBNaija housemate, Miyonse, launches own cooking show

Former Big Brother Naija (#BBNaija) 2017 contestant, Miyonse Oluwaseyi, popularly called Miyonse, says plans are underway for his new television show with focus on cooking and confectionery.

“My TV show is coming out soon; it is a cooking show; however, I would not like to disclose more because the people I signed the contract with have not released an official statement,” Miyonse said on Tuesday.

“Also I do not like to make noise about my works before they come out. I will like them to speak for themselves.

“I am not an artiste, so you may not see me at some events; I am a chef; I cook for a living; I have signed two deals with two restaurants to cook with them every month.

“Aside these, I have a couple of other ideas that am working on. I believe everything will work together for good and by the grace of God, the sky will be a stepping stone.

“However, I feel this is not the right time to release all these information. It is not something I want to release in haste.’’

Miyonse, who is also a trained chef, said he was currently consulting in a new Culinary School based in Ilorin, Kwara .

The 25-year old graduate of mass communication from University of Lagos explained that the reason he has not been seen at some of the events along with his fellow housemates was “because I am a chef.’’

Miyonse, a self-acclaimed lover of good music and beauty, was evicted after spending just two weeks in the Big Brother house.

His short stay in the house was eventful; he was romantically involved with fellow housemate Tokunbo Idowu also known as ‘Tboss’ who referred to him as “my boo.’’

He is currently the pioneer ambassador for Pay Porte’s, an online food store.

How I got married, became born again in prison – Kemi Olunloyo

Nigeria’s controversial US trained journalist, Kemi Olunloyo, has revealed how she got married in prison.

Kemi was recently released from a Port Harcourt prison after spending 81 days in detention.

Recall that the daughter of former governor of Oyo State, Victor Omololu Olunloyo, was remanded in prison for purportedly publishing materials believed to have defamed an influential cleric, Pastor David Ibiyeomie, of the Salvation Ministries in Port Harcourt.

In a message she shared on her Instagram page, the journalist wrote…

“I GOT MARRIED LIKE I PROMISED TO IN 2017. Yes I got MARRIED to someone in prison.

“This is my FIRST SUNDAY away from #PHMax prison. I lean towards Catholism and Islam which I grew up in and attended the Catholic church inside the prison.

“There are up to 4 churches and a mosque in there plus the Pentecostal churches that visits inmates weekly and bring us the word of God and provisions.

“I became a bible reader.

“The same bible I ripped in 2016 as being a “storybook” of fiction may have been real. I studied what the prophets of old said. It seems unreal but these things likely happened.

“But why are we commercializing religion and brainwashing the congregation? I will become a Woman of God very soon and use my prophetic abilities and bible story knowledge to apply wisdom to your lives. Prison always make all inmates spiritual…right?.

“Hell No! Jesus shows up in the most expected places. Unlike the enemies of the #freethesheeple movement who are so Christ obsessed? I did not find #Jesus. He found me! Jesus is my first and new HUSBAND! I have never been married or divorced in my entire life. This will be an everlasting relationship.

“Say Alleluia! May God forgive your sins too! Don’t be obsessed with religion. Minimize!

“#HAPPYSUNDAY to all of you and my former inmates. My seat in the front row near our Catholic female leader and 76yo #MamaOwerri will be empty today as Father tells the church about my release last week.”

Copyright infringement: Author slams N100m lawsuit on Stephanie Okereke for ‘Dry’

Nollywood actress, Stephanie Okereke, has been slammed a N100m lawsuit by an author – Daniella Madudu – for alleged copyright infringement of her book titled: “Behind Her Veil.”

Madudu claims that major parts of her book were lifted and used without any form of acknowledgement to her in Stephanie Okereke’s movie – “Dry”

According to the author, she gave the manuscripts of the book to one of her friends, Joy Ndidi, who later became Stephanie’s Personal Assistant, to edit; only for her to see major excerpts of her book revealed in Stephanie Okereke Linus’ movie, Dry.

But the actress in a statement maintained that her movie had been registered with the National Copyright Commission since 2012, while the book was officially published in 2014.

The actress also stated that the said book has never been registered with the NCC till date.

She further said that her movie ‘DRY ‘was shot in a bid to lend her voice
to the child not bride campaign.

However, the actress admitted receiving a letter from one Rafiu Bello acting on behalf of Daniella Madudu on May 19, accusing her of appropriation of an ‘original literary work’ that was allegedly stolen from her by Joy Ndidi.

Okereke Linus said that among many other things, the letter demanded that she credits Madudu with ownership of her work, pay the sum of N60,000,000 and royalties, or face a ‘campaign of calumny.’

The statement reads: “that these persons have since gone ahead with their premeditated plan to defame me upon allegations they know to be baseless, spurious and glaringly untrue is no longer news as the media is presently awash with the ‘fruit of their labour’ and ordinarily I would not have dignified it with a response but for the sake of posterity and lest my silence be termed an admission of any wrongdoing whatsoever, I will simply proceed to state the facts here, viz:

“I registered the script for my movie ‘DRY’ with The United States Copyright Office on November 28, 2011.

“That I registered the script for my movie ‘DRY’ with The Nigerian Copyright Commission on July 27, 2012.

“That my movie ‘DRY’ was shot in the months of August and September, 2012 in Nigeria.’

“The so called ‘original literary work’ of the Daniella Madudu, I was supposed to have appropriated in my movie, has never been registered at The Nigerian Copyright Commission even as we speak.

“That the unofficial trailer for ‘DRY’ was released to lend my voice in support of the ‘Child Not Bride’ campaign.

“That Ms. Joy Ndidi’s first ever contact with me was in 2013 (DRY was already a finished project at this time) and it was not until June 2013 that she was officially engaged to provide content and ad-placement for my personal blog, ‘The Stephanie Daily’ for all of six (6) months and this she did from the comfort of her home.”

No date has been fixed yet for the court case.

Baby Dropped From 10th Floor Of 24-Storey Building Survives | Video

According to an eye-witness, Samira Lamrani, A baby was caught by a member of the public after being dropped from Grenfell Tower as it was engulfed with flames.

She said:

“on the ninth or 10th floor People were starting to appear at the windows, frantically banging and screaming
The windows were slightly ajar, a woman was gesturing that she was about to throw her baby and if somebody could catch her baby.

Somebody did, a gentleman ran forward and managed to grab the baby.

I could see people from all angles, banging and screaming for help.

Us members of the public were reassuring them, telling them we’ve done what we can and that we’ve phoned 999, but obviously the look on their face was death.

My daughter’s friend said she observed an adult who made some sort of homemade parachute and tried to lower himself out of the window.

The more I looked up, floor upon floor. Endless numbers of people. Mainly the kids, because obviously their voices, with their high pitched voices – that will remain with me for a long time.

I could hear them screaming for their lives.”

According to LBC, Another resident said she saw a woman throw her son, who was about five years old, from a fifth or sixth floor window to escape the blaze.

She said:

“One woman actually threw her son out of the window. I think he’s OK.I think he might have just had some broken bones and bruises.

I left my phone at home so I went back to grab it and, by the time I got back, the road was completely blocked off, the fire had dramatically spread.

It was like a scene from a Hollywood movie.

There was another woman screaming ‘my baby, my baby, I need to get out, I need to save my baby’.

“But we were just looking up. We couldn’t do anything. There was nothing we could do.”

At least 12 people have been confirmed dead in the huge fire that ripped through the west London tower block, but police expect the death toll to rise.

Eighteen people are in critical care after 79 injured people were taken to hospital. But many are still missing after residents were left trapped on upper floors as flames rapidly ripped up the block after initially being told to stay in their homes.

Although, Up to 600 people are believed to have been inside the Tower’s 120 flats when the blaze tore through the 24-storey building in the early hours.
