Gunmen attack Police Boss’s home, 2 officers shot dead

Gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram assailants attacked the Kano home of the Imo state commissioner of police, Mohammed Jinjiri Abubakar at Dorayi Quarters in Kano, killing two police officers and injuring two others in the assault.

The officers were said to be on duty at the commissioner’s residence when they came under fire. There was pandemonium in the neighborhood as residents and passers-by ran for safety.

Mohammed Jinjiri was not thought to have been in the house at the time of the attack on Monday afternoon. The gunmen did not gain entrance to the home.

Kano State Police Commissioner, Mr. Ibrahim Idris confirmed the attack saying that the gunmen escaped with bullets wounds after they were given a hot chase by members of the public.

Mr. Ibrahim also explained that the suspects abandoned their motorcycle and took to their heels, adding that police had since commenced investigation.

“A group of armed men on motorcycles attacked policemen on guard duty at a residence of a senior police officer at Dorayi quarters,

“During the gun duel, two policemen were killed, two injured, while the hoodlums escaped with bullet wounds.

“Members of the public also pursued the attackers.” A police statement said.

Eyewitnesses say that two attackers arrived on motorcycles at the front of the house, while others approached from the rear. They were disguised as labourers and carried a bag of cement.

The affected area has since been cordoned off by the police.
