Ministry of Interior Creating Avenues for Fraudsters to Scam Nigerian Jobseekers

unemployedThe Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Professor Oba Abdurahman, has said the Federal Ministry of Interior may have created jobs for scammers who are using the internet to defraud unemployed Nigerians.

Speaking on Monday, at the ongoing two-day public hearing by the Senate Joint Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs and Employment, Labour and Productivity on “Employment Irregularities in Federal Establishments in Nigeria,” Abdurahman said public employment, if wrongly used, constituted a threat to national unity.

According to Abdurahman, the Ministry of Interior had created an official website asking prospective job applicants to drop their Curriculum Vitae online but without indicating the positions for which to apply. He said the website had the capacity to attract the internet scammers who operated outside the purview of the public recruitment establishment, using fake portals to swindle their unsuspecting victims.

His words: “The Ministry of Interior opened a website and directed people to deposit CVs there without indicating what position they are applying for… That kind of action will drive these young men and women into the hands of fraudsters,” he said.
