Days after the Police arrested the Kingpin Kidnapper in Nigeria, Police operatives attached to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (D7), Umuahia, Abia State, shot dead a suspected notorious armed robbery/kidnap gang leader identified as Samuel Kalu, aka Obere.
It was learnt that Kalu, whose gang had allegedly been terrorising the state, was reportedly killed in a gun battle between the gang and the police.
A police source alleged the gang killed one Chuks Mbaeri Okebata, a former US-based army officer, two police men, and eight members of the Abia State Vigilante Service (Bakassi) in Aba at different times and dates.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Adeleye Oyebade, confirmed the development while briefing journalists in Umuahia.
Oyebade said Kalu was arrested by the team of detectives, following a tipoff in Okai Item, Bende Local Government Area.
Oyebade said, “The police patrol van used for the operation was riddled with bullets during the encounter, the Command Tactical Response Squad had been drafted to assist in tracking down the remaining members of the gang.
“Members of the public are enjoined to volunteer information to the police or any other security agencies on anyone found with bullet wounds, as this could lead to the arrest of fleeing hoodlums.”
