Commercial motorcyclists popularly known as Okada blocked the Lagos-Badagry Expressway on Thursday to protest against the banning of riders from the expressway.
Bonfires were made by the protesters on the road and prevented vehicular movements for hours.
They reportedly hauled stones at policemen from the Ojo division, who tried to disperse them.
It was gathered that the protesters were eventually dispersed with the support of operatives of the Okoko division, Rapid Response Squad and soldiers from the Ojo Military Cantonment.
A source said, “The riders, along with some miscreants, at 7am gathered around LASU’s main gate to start the protest.
“Their presence on the road drew the attention of the DPO, Ojo Police Division, who mobilised policemen to the area. They appealed to the protesters and they dispersed.
“The protesters re-emerged later in larger number, making bonfires and blocking both sides of the expressway. They threw stones which shattered the windscreens of several vehicles and injured some policemen.”
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, said there was no clash, adding that peace had returned to the area.
