Fiorentina’s asking prize for Jovetic have been considered a ploy to spark a bidding war, with Juventus also keen on landing the striker.

Arsenal, who has offered £20 million for the 23- year- old, has an alternative in Gonzalo Higuain of Real Madrid.

The Gunners have talked to Gonzalo Higuain after the Spanish club stated they wanted to sell the 25- year- old Argentine.

Arsenal will intensify their interest in Higuain if a deal for Jovetic, who has been on the club’s radar since 2011 cannot be struck.

However, Fiorentina president Andrea Della Valle has admitted: “It is very unlikely he will stay.”

“Stevan has to figure out what he wants for the future. If he is to choose something else, then it’s important we are compensated,” Valle added.

Meanwhile, Arsenal’s search for a safer goalkeeping hand has prompted Victor Valdes’ representative to sound out the North London club to see if Arsene Wenger is interested.

Valdes, Julio Cesar of Queens Park Rangers are among the goalkeepers on offer to the Gunners.
