Egypt’s Presidential And Cabinet Spokesmen Resign Amid Protests

Mursi

The spokesmen for the Egyptian presidency and the cabinet quit on Tuesday, the latest in a string of resignations from the administration of President Mohammad Mursi, who remains defiant despite massive public pressure to step down.

Presidential spokesman Ehab Fahmy, who was seconded to the presidency from the foreign ministry — has tendered his resignation, a foreign ministry official said.

Cabinet spokesman Alaa Al Hadidi told the official Mena news agency he had also given his notice to Prime Minister Hesham Qandil.

Mursi just spent a year in office as the first democratically elected president, after the revolution that ousted former leader Hosni Mubarak.

Opposition has decried Mursi’s autocratic way of leadership which they said has not justified the process that brought him to power, leading protests in Egypt which stated on Sunday, June 30.
